How wonderful that your neighbor came to the rescue. There's nothing worse than spending a birthday alone while freezing in the dark! Thanks so much for reading ... happy belated birthday! Audrey,

Comment on Winter Storm Alfred: Life Without Power by Audrey Olander http://ireneolszewski.com/ctlawblog/2011/11/07/winter-storm-alfred-life-without-power/comment-page-1/#comment-4887 Audrey Olander Sun, 15 Jan 2012 18:28:39 +0000 http://ireneolszewski.com/ctlawblog/?p=3403#comment-4887 I just had to respond after reading because, if I figured out the days right, you and I share the same birthday, November 2. I was also angry there was no power on my birthday and had to spend it in my freezing cold apartment also without running water and no way to get warm. Luckily I saved water in my bathtub when I heard the storm was coming. I didn't get my power back until after a full 7 nights without heat. One of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had. I was about to spend my birthday feeling sorry for myself until my neighbor rang my doorbell and had brought hamburgers and hotdogs she cooked on her grill and then invited me to spend time sitting in front of her fire. Couldn't ask for a kinder, more meaningful birthday present. I just had to respond after reading because, if I figured out the days right, you and I share the same birthday, November 2. This one really hit home for me. When my husband died last year, we struggled to find all of his online accounts. He didn't leave any passwords or account numbers. I am still trying to sort it all out. I hope others take your advice. It's bad enough when someone you love dies but when you have to go through this kind of nightmare it's just awful. I will be sending this post to everyone I know. Thank you for writing it. I found your blog for the first time tonight and want to say that I’ve really learned a lot from your posts. Comment on Social Media “No No’s” During Divorce Proceedings by Paulette http://ireneolszewski.com/ctlawblog/2010/12/15/social-media-no-nos-during-divorce-proceedings/comment-page-1/#comment-1752 Paulette Wed, 28 Dec 2011 17:16:21 +0000 http://ireneolszewski.com/ctlawblog/?p=1931#comment-1752 I won't say the name of my employer for obvious reasons but I can tell you the company checks every new applicant's background by looking at the social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. There are people who don't get hired because of the stuff that the HR people see on their pages. Word to the wise: be careful. I can just picture you trying to get across the street without getting slammed by a car. A coworker of mine who knows about my past love affair with the arcades sent me this post. I have read several of your posts today and know that I will be reading this blog on a daily basis. Thanks for the laugh. I hope you always make it across the street. You captured what all of us seemed to be going through during those awful days without power. I think I can honestly say that I felt exactly the same as each day turned to the next. You (and she) know first hand that it really does happen. I'm glad you will spread the word. people seldom think about such issues until it is too late. Thanks for reading. Irene Belinda,

She divorced my dad years ago and had a long-term relationship with a man she never married. They lived in his house the whole time. When he died, his brother sold the place right out from under her. She was devastated. I guess you already know that he didn't have a will. Good advice. I will pass this on to everyone I know who is in that kind of situation. She felt like a fool so she didn't mention it right away. I wish she had. She got a letter in the mail about being a secret shopper. Shame on people for preying on others like this. You do a great service by warning people. I just hope they listen before it's too late.
